Meet the new Barangay Ginebra Import
Barangay Ginebra is tapping the services of an import with an interesting story – Awvee Storey.
Storey, an NBA veteran, has had quite a tumultuous career. He was a former teammate of Gilbert Arenas with the Washington Wizards where they played together in 2006. During the Memorial Day weekend of the same year, he and Arenas were arrested and charged for disobeying the police at Miami Beach.
Charges were dropped after the 6-foot-6 Storey donated $250 for charity.
As a player of the Dakota Wizards in the NBA Developmental League, Storey punched teammate Martynas Andriuškevičius in the head during practice.
Andriuškevičius fractured skull, and suffered from severe concussion and a bruise after the incident. He didn’t file any charges against Storey but the league suspended him and Dakota terminated his contract later.
But Storey has great basketball sense. He was one of Pac-10’s top rebounders while playing for University of Illinois and posted 16 double-double performances in his 85-game NCAA career.
During the 2007-08 NBA season while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Storey averaged 3.5 points and 2.1 rebounds.
